After Lee & I quit school (9 months each in 3 different schools), 1st 3 months in a private school in Lampasas spring of 1895. Then 3 months in Mr. Rimschel’s private school spring of 1898. Then 3 months Tivy School fall 1898. I reached the 3rd grade. Lee did better.
Dad bought a hay baler & Lee & I had to help him run it after our crops were in. In the fall he would go out baling for the public all over Kerr County. Of course we camped out during the week & usually came in for Sunday & to get more grub & supplies. One time we were baling for Mr. ...

... George Walker below Center Point. One day Lee & I were leading the horses to the river for water. Lee was in front leading a grey stallion that did most of the baling work. I was following leading another horse. For some unknown reason the horse Lee was leading kicked hitting me in the forehead. I never knew it or felt it.
