tHe Mosty FarM BourBon & craWFord countIes, Kansas
After I received the deed records from Bourbon County, Kansas I went to the Appraisal District’s website and searched through their tax records; using the property description to locate properties meeting those descriptions I found six properties, ve which met the full property description (see list at left) “E 1/2” of Section 14” being the critical description Three agricultural use, one exempt and one homesite I am relatively certain this is the property Lee & Elizabeth owned However, whether the current homesite is where the original farmhouse was located is hard to say (See images on page at left) But, at least I now know where the farm property was located
At left is a composite screen of the Google maps street view with the present homesite outlined in a black rectangle
Based on Harvey’s diary entry, “We moved to a farm near Hepler right on the MK&T railroad tracks”, I believe the family moved from the original farm about two miles north of Hepler, to the farm near Hepler -
after their Bourbon County property was sold at a
Sheri ’s Auction This is the farm (indicated in the
lower left of the map below), near Hepler, they left
when they started their trip to Kerrville, Texas
